Fuel pump residue

My fuselage kit arrived this week. While inventorying parts I noticed a crusty, crystalline residue along the seam of the fuel pump. Similar to residue that old abandoned batteries leak. Should I be talkin' with Van's?

Absolutely, return it. I have found Van's to be a quality company, but they are not giving these kits away. We are paying good money for these materials and they should be first quality in every way.

I'm betting it's just some kind of sealant used in putting the pumps together.
