Fly LED Landing Light Aiming Question

I have the Fly LED landing lights in my wing tips (not leading edge lights). I need to test the aim of the lights on the ground before doing some night flying. I can aim them by pointing at hangar down the taxiway, but not sure what's the best "starting point" to test first. Should I aim them "straight ahead" so the light beam in mostly concentrated level with wings, or should I aim them downward slightly so the lights will illuminate the runway surface during landing.

Any advice from others who have gone through this would be appreciated.

I did a cross eyed technique on my 8. One straight ahead but slightly towards the centerline of the plane. The second angled down. It gives me the look down to light up a dark runway and the look ahead to see well into the distance while transitioning to land or when taking off.

Not level. In any reasonable landing flare the lights would be pointing up. My suggestion is to position them for best light while taxiing - at a dark, small airport with no taxiway lights, that’s when you really need them. And live with what you get when landing. Remind yourself not to stare at the lit area just in front of the plane - look further down the runway. When I was still doing primary instruction, most students made better night landings with the landing light off. When on, they moved their focus too close in (where the lights were shining!). Of course, this only applies to airports with runway lights.

Have you used flyLED lights? It’ll go at least 3000ft down the runway which may be the entire runway if your landing on a short one. They are extremely bright and go far.

Yes, I have the Works in both wingtips. And I like them. But any landing light will light up the area closer to the plane better than 3000’ away. Just don’t stare too close to the plane, that’s all. And make sure you can see to taxi on a taxiway with no blue lights.
