Flightaware track log - Altitude concerns

The 8 went to the paint shop today. I followed in my Bonanza to pick my bud up. Both planes used area baro settings which were adjusted several times in flight and both had reported altitudes around 400 feet low. Usually Flightaware is dead on but today it wasn’t even close. Airport elevations agreed with altimeter.

Also FA lost my signal several times including 100 miles to and from my home field today yet other days when goofing off, it doesn’t lose me near home.

Does this seem odd?
Anyone see any discrepancies between FA and what you were doing recently?

What was the altimeter setting?
Remember that FlightAware reports pressure alt, so if the altimeter was 30.30 or so, then the readings that you saw on FlightAware are expected.

I’ve never seen a discrepancy like this before and on 2 planes same altitude. Only thing I can think of is we have a major cold front coming in and pressure is different in the layers as it starts to push in. Surface winds were calm but at 7500’ they were 30+ knots.

How can you explain 292 MPH in the climb flight aware reported?

The last two flights of N18760 show triangulation from multiple ground receivers via MLAT. This is using mode C data instead of ADSB and can be very rough. I think the ADSB out was not working (PAPR report may confirm). The flight on Dec 21 was fine with a good ADSB track.

Why is it important that anyone can track your whereabouts accurately?

I for one don’t want a call from the FAA that I busted my altitude on an IFR flight.

It’s not important to me that anyone can. It’s important to me that those that are important know.
