Flap torque tube

C.Matt

I'm New Here
I'm currently installing the flap torque tube and handle in my 4. I have marked the seat where Van's suggests to mount the lock blocks, but only get travel from 0-20°.
The flap actuating arm hits the gusset on F-6.
Am I missing something or does the gusset need to be relieved more?20250304_100109.jpg

That is normal on most RV-4 builds. Mine wasnt as severe of a cut, and you need to make smooth and raduised to eliminate stress points. Make sure the rest of your geometry is correct, such as flap rod lengths ect. Mine is the electric flap set-up, so there are variables that will change how far down the weldment travels. You need wings on and flaps on before you can dial it in. All my flap linkage is covered with side panels (removed in pic), but you can zoom in this picture and get an idea where mine is with flaps full down. My trim out of the gusset just clears the weldment.

Yeah: Like that. My weldment to the flap torque tube is pretty much flush with the floor at 40 degrees of flaps (full down) like you can (almost) see in this photo.

Also, look at the top rivet on the tab from the side bulkhead. It needs a little bit more of a squeeze if you can get something in there to drive/squeeze it. It isn't doing much with that shop head............

Thanks for the input everyone. I bought this as a partially finished kit, and I'm still finding exactly where the previous builder left off and cleaning up substandard bits.
Kit was new in 1982, S/N 495.
