WHAT THE HECK DO I HAVE????

So I was rounding up the parts to finish the firewall. Most parts are prefab pre-cut by Van's. Thank you Van's.

I could not find my recess at first but found it, but had two? My kit was purchased a long time ago. I don't recall what I bought.

One is 2" deep and one is a monster 4" deep. The 2" has pre punched holes for the firewall which is also pre punched. The 4" deep one has blank flanges.

Obvious the build quality of the 4" deep one is very good. The 2" one is a bit rough, good but not as solid as the 4".

My O-360-A1A has spin-on rear facing filter, and it has prop Gov facing rearward.

What is the gouge on these recesses. I need one, but the 4 inch one is a monster. Is three some interference inside the cockpit?

I've seen both, one for the governor and another for the rear facing filter. The one for the governor may be needed if you have to remove the governor at a later date ( it takes some room to clear the studs holding it on, and even more if you pull it off with the adaptor/drive attached).

Ahaaaa. OK I have a Woodward Gov. 3-5/8" deep has higher build quality. The 2.25" one needs spot weld to be repaired and big gaps filled.

I called Van and they kind of did not know what the deep one was. The picture in Van's AC store for K-601K (the one that comes in kit) is bad. He did not have dimensions but flat pattern, which showed about 3" something. If you included the bend radius two places that might account for the F-601K being about 2-1/4" deep.

EDIT: I did some measurements, the Gov when removing, to clear studs has about 2.4" clearance from firewall (no recess). Oil filter when removing, clear nipple, has 1.8" from firewall. Shallow one would work, but build quality low, needs repair. The pre punched matched holes are nice, but too few spot welds. The deep one has to have holes drilled.

Using Deep One I will have to Mod the Center Cover in the cockpit, Dwg 34, but that seems easy enough.

Note the F-601K-1 popped the one spot weld on shallow recess (zoom into picture you will see it). There is only ONE spot weld on that flange.
