Filling up without spilling?

I was wondering how you guys know when the tank is full without it coming out the fuel tank vent? Every time I've filled up I just fill it until it comes up in the filler neck and then it will run out the vent. A line guy did this the other day too and apologized like he had done something wrong lol.

I listen to it. When it sounds like an ascending slide whistle, that's the cue to stop. Still, we've blasted the plexiglass with auto gas so many times...

I usually watch the pump. My fuel gauges are pretty accurate so I know how much I'm expecting to put in each side. Go slow on the last gallon.

Cross checks the fill, the gauges, and the flow totalizer.

What Seagull said. If I were you I would order several feet and share the shipping with somebody else. It will get opaque with age, I suppose, but mine is over a year old and I can see the fuel in the tank as it get's close to being full.

Sounds like it would extend the life, if you made a point to not fill to the neck, if it will be sitting for a while.

12 or 12iS?

If iS, carefully watch the analog gauge on the top of the tank as you’re filling. As it approaches full, slow the stream way down to a trickle and either listen (hard to do on a noisy ramp) or look down the filler neck and watch until the fuel starts rising up the neck.

Even with this method, I’ve taken a 100LL bath a lot more than I’d like to admit! I’m easily distracted.

Is this the same size spec for the 12iS?

I have the gauge on top of tank to know when to slow down and also do the listening method. Between these two it is rare to have a spill. However, having a view into the tank would remove all doubt and worry.

Here is another option in case Kartek is out of stock, which they were when I ordered the hose for my 12IS. I have not, as of yet taken a 100LL shower since I installed mine. I typically will alert the fueler that he can see the tank filling up if he will just take a peak.
