Fastback Instrument Cover Gussets

I've been working through getting the fastback instrument cover fitted. I've gotten the little gussets on the sides fitted up to some degree. On the right it seems that the outboard angle of the gusset will interfere with the hinge. I relieved it so it would fit and it might also do to retain the hinge pin. I'm curious what others might have done here?

As it is I'll have to bond the gusset to the cover, then I"ll sand, fill, and shape it for a nice look. Took a fair amount of trimming/sanding on the forward part of the right gusset to get it where it should be.

Also, looking at the picture it seems the canopy frame does not cover the screws on the top skin that hold the instrument cover on. Is that so when it is all finished?

I created a “joggle” on the underside where it overlaps the hinge. Laid up a couple of layers of glass on the top side to strengthen it. I forgot to smooth it out nicely before going to paint, but… It also retains the hinge pin. Yep the screws on the fwd edge of the instrument cover are exposed.

Yes I think you did what I did and had to create room in that right gusset for the hinge eyes.

I’m curious what you have screwed under the cover? GPS pucks?
