Easy Self Clearing today

Drove to Sweetgrass Montana yesterday, stayed overnight. Monday morning went to pick up my wing kit that was sent from Vans to Montana Shipping Outlet. Did a self clearing at the border using a code i got from Vans Airforce guys. Took about 1/2 hr at customs and was done. Paid the GST and away we went back home west of Edmonton. Only expensive part was Vans shipping costs to get it there. $1700 CDN. Plus it took pretty much a month to get it there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s good to hear the self-clearing process was fairly straightforward and only took about 30 minutes. The GST is expected, but that $1,700 CAD shipping charge and the month-long wait are definitely tough to swallow. Still, it sounds like using Montana Shipping Outlet and handling the customs clearance yourself helped avoid additional brokerage fees. Glad you got your wing kit home safely now the fun part of the build can begin!

I have self cleared all of my kits. Shipped to Detroit ABF Freight and pick up there.

Yes the 1700 kit shipping was a big hit. Could drive to Vans to pick up up for less money. Even if it’s 17 hrs from home and would be a 5 day trip. Rooms going and coming and one there. Plus gas and wear and tear on my truck. Would be nice to see the factory and give all of them shit while Im there. Im tired of them shipping from the store in a box with no marking on it regarding it contains fragile aircraft parts. Pic of box i got from them. Was at border too. Only my name and shipping info. Nothing else. Nothing damaged inside but it wouldn’t hurt them to put some damn stickers on it so shipper at least realizes it is fragile. Wont pack a bunch on other boxes on it.
