what scooters have some of you purchased to haul (RV-7A) mainly looking for decent speed price and distance. also something that can work as a regular scooter incase the batteries die. want to use in the event of no crew car availability.

I bought a Segway Ninebot. Very fast, big battery. Its primary use is getting around the airport, (hangar to bathroom etc). It would work great for getting around off-airport and I was thinking that it might be haulable in my -9A. It's possible to use for that purpose, but absolutely not practical. I have found since that a scooter of size and capacity useful for the transportations purposes that you describe is not practical for transport in an RV-7A...especially if you don't have a Supertracks canopy extension. I'd be looking for a foldable bicycle, or maybe a OneWheel or Boosted Board.

IMG_8923.jpegI chose an Isinwheel S9 pro, which I’ve hauled along on several flights. It tops out at 15 mph— and slower going up hills. Not the most powerful, but it is fun, and fits in the RV-7A. Paid $300. Range is claimed to be 19 mi. Most I’ve ridden was 6 and still had half bars left. It is NOT an off-road scooter. Needs to be on pavement/sidewalks.

We’ve got a pair of Segway Mini’s, and they fit nicely (well one fits nicely….two fit OK….) in the back of the -6 or -8…they have ten(ish) mile range on flat ground, and can be useful for getting that “last mile” in to town if you have practice I’d riding on gravel a little….

I have had a Kingsong 14D for many years. Love it. I still have plenty of room for luggage and passenger in my RV7A.
kinda hard to carry luggage when a scooter is taking up 25 pounds in the back. ive seen i can really only take myself (178 lbs) plus one other 150 lbs and about 60 pounds in the back
then again i am new to ownership so the hell do i know XD

not bad, a littel heavy but if im going solo it gets the job done

I have been looking for this mystery scooter since I got my plane. Anyone know of anything that fits in a tip up? Those one wheels and e skateboards seem like death machines and I don't want to stack too many of those on top of each other lol

I don’t know much about these machines but don’t most of them use high capacity Lithium batteries of unknown origin?
Is anyone worried about having large Lithium batteries in the back of their plane?

Exactly, a small four stroke gas engine powered unit would seem lighter and fuel is easy to find.

Now, are you comfortable with a gas tank in the back of the plane?

I use an Inmotion V8S Electric Unicycle in my RV-6A tip up. Sits right behind the lightest seat to keep CG tight. Takes practice to learn, but much safer in a crash (IMHO) as you are standing rather than staggered and can "run" out of the fall. My biggest challenge is finding a passenger who can also ride an EUC, else I am the only one prepared for the last (up to 10) mile(s). I can also carry a large bag over my shoulder or backpack to haul my clothes for a trip.

I have a One-Wheel XR that I take around occasionally that makes the perfect get around. Except for the small issue of it's high likelihood of bodily damage should you fall. Otherwise it's the perfect get around. Small in size, Huge tire that is both smooth to ride and can handle dirt, gravel, grass, sand and it's 15+ mile range make it nearly perfect until you end up in the hospital! 🤕

I have a friend that rode around the airport on an electric stand- on skateboard, with a handle. All fun and games until he rode over a tie down cable and went flying to land face first onto the asphalt. Many thousands of dollars in facial surgeries and untold pain later, he is done with that nonsense;

The Kingsong is behind the red backpack and black suitcase. Weight was not an issue. More that we would take on a commercial flight. My wife is petite.1741405597780.jpeg

To put a point on it: no matter what option you choose, get a helmet. And if you've got an existing one that's been kicking around for >5 years, replace it. Foam breaks down over time, and micro-cracks will form from natural usage.

I spent a summer commuting with the original Segway Ninebot folding scooter 6 years ago, and I bonked my head on the asphalt after taking a turn too fast, since the tires were solid rubber and thus didn't have much of a contact patch. I had a headache for the rest of the morning, but it would've been way worse otherwise.

Sure would like to see if I could get one of there bad boys to fit... Speed - non-issue, Range - non-issue

Oh, No! You are going to put gasoline in a confined space with lithium batteries?😧

Just kidding but I wanted to be first.

taht looks heavy as hell! whats the W&B looking on that? here i am always being afraid that im out of limits.
For my plane, I won't go below 7 gallons left. When fuel is that low, you want to be sure 2 people don't step on the step at the same time. CG does go aft as you burn fuel.

The small isinwheel escooter is only $159 on Amazon right now. It is the smallest escooter I could find. I ordered one. I think I can make it fit in my RV-12. I'll let you know.

I got the isinwheel escooter. Looks like it will fit in the back of my RV-12! Not bad for $159. I need to make some brackets to hold it down in flight so it doesn't hit me in the back of the head and also so it doesn't poke a hole in the side of my airplane. With a little luck this will be the solution to the last mile problem when I go hunting for that $100 hamburger.

I have a Segway ES3 that barely fits into the back of my RV-6, I think you could remove the handlebars so there is a bit more space but it does work! The scooter itself is great (18 mph) and good range also.

I bought a Onewheel Pint because it would fit in the cargo area of my legacy RV-12 (next to the gas tank). It was fun to ride around... but when I went off of it, the comminuted spiral femur fracture was not fun at all. Would not recommend.

Ditto. I bought close-out prior year model at Costco for 50% off, which made it a great deal as well.

I also use it for going the couple miles from the airport to my office as part of my commute. It's been very reliable with many miles on it now.

I have an etwow GT sold by Uscooters. ultra portable and fits with room to spare in my RV-14A. 40km. an hour(ish) and 40kms range. Perfect for the last mile at airports.

Wear a helmet.

After my scooter decided to go thermal nuclear and burn down Camp Scholler this year, there is no friggin way I would put one of these in my airplane with me.

This was no cheap toy! It was a $2500 well known brand that had been well cared for. Obviously price does not equal safety!

This thing exploded and then shot out 25’ flames like a massive blow torch.

Scary! Can you tell more about how that happened? Was it charging? If yes, what type of generator do you run? I know one of the perks of inverter generators is "cleaner" power. Any other contributing factors you know?
