Drilling wiring hole in control stick

My WD-01212-1 control sticks came with what I believe to be a wiring hole pre-drilled. This is the hole described by step 1 of page 42MiS/U-05. At least, the sticks have a hole in the same position described in that step. The puzzling thing is that both sticks have this hole on the left side whereas the instructions say to mirror all the steps for the control head installation when performing them on the co-pilot side which would put this hole on the right. Page 42MiS/U-11 shows that the wires from the control head will right to a connector on the right side of the fuselage, so a hole on the right would make more sense.

My inclination is not to drill another hole on the right next to the existing hole out of concern for weakening the stick too much. Instead I'll use the existing hole and route the wires around the stick to the right when I clamp them down with a wire tie. But I'm curious what approach others have used here?
