Does anyone have any experience with this company???

You'd think someone has, given their claims of "... precision-engineered landing gear tailored for over 1,000 aircraft types, prioritizing quality and pilot satisfaction" and "25+ years of experience" and "400+ happy pilots".

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

If "spring aluminum" is a thing, it's most likely a thing with lower strength and perhaps more importantly, a lower fatigue resistance/endurance limit than spring steel.

I spoke with SHelly at LGC yesterday. Since I am considering different avenues to remove weight from my recently purchased RV-8. Price difference bewtween LGC and Sky Designs is not insignificant. Haven't checked yet on what might be the diffence in total package costs yet.

Having purchased this plane built, and never involved in constructing an RV, is changing out the gear legs a big under taking? I'm definitely mechanically astute, and have replaced gear on my RANS S7, but that is a tubular rod and drilling it was critical.

My other thoughts to reduce weight are swapping out propellors. Unfortunately the current prop is a new Hartzell BA. Has less than 10 hours on it so I imagine it could resell it to fund a WW-300 which seems to be a good choice.

If I do both options, it will be a significant weight reduction. But also rather expesive.

Lots of owners say it's much cheaper for them to just go on a diet, my normal weight is 165-170 lbs. and loosing more than a few pounds isn't going to happen. I'd be a stick!

I absolutely love the WW-300 on our RV-8, and yes, I was able to sell a recently-overhauled Hartzell for pretty much what I had in to it (because of inflationary pressures….). The upgrade probably cost me a couple of grand in the difference in pre ice, but certainly not as bad as not having a “trade in” (so to speak). I haven’t looked into changing the gear from stock to after-market on an -8, but I coudl see how it could be pretty complex…or simple. I would check with Jim Rust, the owner of LGC - very experienced guy when it comes to fast airplanes.

Oh…and Jim also designed the WW-300 prop (and sold WW to Hartzell so he could “retire”…. Guess he just couldn’t; stay away!) so he can probably give you some thoughts on the trade-off….

Thanks Paul!! I was thinking if I did the prop swap, sell the Hartzel, I would end up having less invested. Only have a few hours in the plane and it performs well with it, but I have a lot of stuff placed in the baggage to balance out my light weight. Case of oil, Claw tiedown kit, some tools to get the CG good. It actually seems perfect this way, but I would like to elimate some of this and keep it well balanced. Engine is an IO-360C1C, already heavy and then the CS prop just adds to it.

Probably don't remember me, I met you at an EEA presentation in Bemidji, MN a while ago. Talked to you about your airpark and possibly a future visit/move to that area.

The Whirlwind 300 is not recommended for undamped, angle valve engines. Consider the 330, or a Hartzell composite.

My mistake! I forgot, since I had queried about this a couple months ago, I forgot about the 300 vs. 330 on the angle valve. Thanks for the reminder.
