Cyl Drain Hose & Serated Clamp

I don’t know the longevity of these hoses/clamps, but after 250 hrs, one by one, they started leaking. I noticed I could tighten a quarter turn, then another 1/8 and then it would get loose. Those serated worm clamps just don’t cut it. And, though fuel line is rated for @250-270 F, I opted for better clamps and higher rated hose specifically for oil >300 F.

HPS Performance Clamps can be found on Amazon (you need 2 packs of 10):
https://www.amazon.com/HPS-FIC-12x10-Stainless-Injection-Clamps/dp/B073X1P9GK

Pegasus Racing Hose (you need 2’ of PN 3290-06 and cut qty 6 2 1/2” sections):

Pegasus is fantastic!

This is better with more even pressure around the circumference, but if/when they leak again, be prepared with some constant force clamps.

The technical issue is engine heat and creep of the elastomer causing the contact pressure to degrade with time/temperature. The constant force clamps address that and will stay dry.

The higher temp hose should assist as well >300 degrees.
Aircraft Spruce OEM cost @ $170 with shipping
HPS clamps and Pegasus hose @ <$70with shipping, plus you have 8 extra clamps and >8” of hose.

I use ear style clamps (Oetiker) almost exclusively FWF - they do not come loose and hold an even pressure for the circumference of the hose.

I told a Lycoming engineer they had to be the last OEM in the entire world still using slotted clamps on fluid lines. All I got was a blank look.

Elastomer extrudes through the slots, clamp pressure goes away. IIRC, photo credit to Vlad...

If you click on the link in the above Jesse23 post, it will take you to a clamp that is not quite large enough for the hose. This link might work better as it is for 3/8" hose:

Looks like a much better hose...and it's bright BLUE!

Installed new oil drain back hoses from Tom last condition inspection. Actually, all new integral fire-sleeved fuel, oil, manifold, hoses from Tom.

Best money I ever spent & customer service from Tom is incredible. He will always have my business!!

… A remote tool is highly recommended to install them…

Re installing constant tension hose clamps… a different tool that worked for me is long reach needle nose pliers… “compound joint” aka “double x” aka “x joint”. I have both straight and bent tip ones.
