I made some small changes to the plans that hold the wire about 1/4” away from the door. Went one size smaller on the Adel clamp (11 instead of 12) around the oil return line. The 12 slid off just from bumping it. I used the proper steel clamp to secure the cable. The wire is quite stiff, but I managed to get a tight radius around the screw so it won’t ride up on the inner stop nut and get closer to the door. I also changed the screw to 5/8”. Doesn’t change the clearance at all but with the 1/2” screw, there is minimal threads on the outer stop nut showing, which made me want to over tighten it. All the small details…That method of installation leaves the wire very close to the door. Over the years, vibration will wear a U channel in the door without some support. I made something similar to a B nut that keeps the wire away from the door. The RTV will let go when you need to pull the door if you don't go overboard putting it on. Just enough RTV to hold it in place.

IMHO, if the wire can't contact the door, I don't see a reason for the RTV. The pic in the instructions show it very close, so it is necessary there.I made some small changes to the plans that hold the wire about 1/4” away from the door. Agree. I’ve got 1/4” clearance and even if I push in on it, it doesn’t come close to the door. I think the metal (expensive) steel clamp helps a lot in that regard.IMHO, if the wire can't contact the door, I don't see a reason for the RTV.
