Connecting Handheld VHF to Garmin GMA 245 Audio Panel

I have a Yeasu handheld that I would like to connect to the Garmin GMA 245 in my RV-12iS as "Com 2". It looks like a fairly easy job that will require a shielded 3 conductor 22 gauge cabe and one unshielded 22 gauge wire for the push to talk along with some male high density pins. I have the wired lots of this sort of stuff from scratch but have not opened the connectors that came with my wiring harness. Has anyone done this and if so, anything I should be aware of?

I plan to cut the headphone adapter for the Yeasu for connection or just use some male headset plugs with it. I have an antenna to install on the top of the tail cone.

Thanks!
Henry

Sounds about right. If you're back there monkeying with the audio panel pins, you may want to also add a wire for a CABIN SPEAKER. You don't need anything special to do this.. some HD pins, a green/white pin tool, a crimper.. maybe a couple solder sleeves.

Most audio panels connect com 1 to the pilot headset if they are not powered. Consider moving the current com 1 to com 2 and connecting the handheld to com 1. This allows listening to ATIS (or ??) before turning on the master or if you have electircal failure then the handheld is automatically connected to the pilot's headset. (Will the -12iS rotax run if there is loss of electrical power ??).
