Cherries to drill out of the tank

We removed the fuel tank (version 1.0 professionally built) and we will be doing all mods on it. Top of the tank is peppered with Cherry Max rivets about dozen of them. I never drilled those out and on first try butchered one. Anybody has suggestions how to remove them without causing much damage to the holes?

I remember watching a video on the EAA website that shows how to drill out a cherry rivet.

Grind off the top of the rivet, use a small punch to drive the pin out. That's it.

Yep, I had to remove some cherry max and lucked onto this video. I followed it and it worked wonderfully. A real easy removal once that sleeve is out. I was really worried about removal but piece of cake.

You have to drill out the lock ring that secures the stem then drive out stem then drill out rivet. Could also use a small ball rotary file to remove lock ring.

I used a Dremel with a cut-off disk on it and it was okay but a bit big for the job. A smaller cutter would be safer.
