Charger access: hole in baggage bulkhead?

Clark01

I'm New Here
Hi there,

I'd like to drill a 1 inch/25mm hole in the baggage bulkhead to put an Anderson Powerpole connector for a battery charger connection.

I've seen the threads saying this bulkhead is structural and cautioning any large holes.

But would a 25mm hole be likely to cause any issues? The type of plug I'd like to use makes adding a doubler unviable..

Any suggestions for a location?

Thanks!

I put two plugs (~3/4") at the very bottom as charging ports. Made a plate to hold them and attached it to the web/floor area and just drilled holes in the cover. Yes, the bulkhead piece is structural, but that doesn't mean holes are not allowed. Find me a structural piece on your plane that doesn't have a hole in it. Your bulkhead already has ~15 holes in it already. If you really want herese, they are grounded to the frame :devilish:

Don't put it near an edge or a fastener and it won't be an issue at all. A 1" hole probably wouldn't be a problem anywhere you put it.

For quick / higher amperage battery charger I have thought of putting a plug in the baggage bulkhead as well. However, I have yet to actually need one yet.

For slow charging / battery maintenance I made the front seat 12V accessory receptacles hot to each battery. When needed I plug in a small NOCO Genius 2X2 into those receptacles.
