Blind Riveting Training Project Instructions

Hey all,

I purchased two of the Blind Rivet Training Projects: https://store.vansaircraft.com/rv-training-proj-blind-rivets-rv-training-proj-blind-rivets.html

I wanted to damage these as much as possible before my RV-12 empennage arrives.

Just opened them up to read the instructions and the DOC RV CLASS PROJECT included only mentions buck rivets, none of the blind rivets that came with the kit. Wasn't sure if this was an accident or intended and up for my interpretation on how to proceed with pull rivets instead of buck rivets.

I received the correct rivets according to the parts list:
  • (8) RIVET AD-41-ABS
  • (100) RIVET CS4-4
  • (30) RIVET LP4-3
  • (4) RIVET MSP-42

Curious if anyone else used this practice kit and what instructions arrived with yours.

I don’t think I had that kit.
I’m not sure I would place much value on a blind rivet kit.

I bought some training kits but diy some of my own. I bought two thicknesses of 2x4 aluminum, cut to 8 inch squares. Then order whatever rivets you want.

I use these to dial in before working on something.

Hey! Can you tell me what it is you are building? I recently bought this Training project (https://store.vansaircraft.com/rv-control-surface-training-project-rv-training-project-1.html) and it is, as the name suggests, some kinf of control surface. My Kit also contained all three different kinds of rivet (dome head, flush and blind).

Looking at the parts list on that one, most of the pieces are the same, except for the rivets. I think the instructions I received would work for the kit you purchased haha!

I'd recommend lots more practice than the kit will give you, especially with removing & replacing rivets -- otherwise you'll get the practice during assembly, or be tempted to accept poor results. Get some scrap aluminum (or a 1' x 1' piece from a local hardware or big box store) and practice drilling, setting, removing, & replacing 100 or 200 pulled & squeezed rivets. Enjoy.
