I have a new -4 that seems to be running lean at SL, EGT’s around 1500. It was based at 6500 ft. I’d like to send my carb to have it checked out. Who’s the best as far as workmanship, customer service and turn around time. TIA! Ricky

Pleasant, quick, excellent work, a fair price….

I toyed with the same decision. Most places that came well regarded were almost as much as a factory overhaul and took a bit to get time on the bench for repair. My .02 is if you have some unique requirement go to a specialist. if you just need a good factory setting carb back go factory overhaul.

I ordered from Spruce and got my MS carb in two days. Had the plane flying the next day. Carb looked brand new. Shipped my old one back a week later. Very easy.

Not a shop recommendation (you got some good ones above), but if the ONLY “problem” you’re seeing is EGT’s, I’d think again about an overhaul. EGT absolute values mean nothing except how close the probes are located to the exhaust ports. Generally, it is recommended to have them about 2” from the exhaust flange - if they are closer, they will be hotter, father away, lower….so if they are all “elevated”, and you didn’t build it, you might check the location before tearing into a working carb.

Just something to check.

Thanks. Good idea! I’m wanting my carb set to max fuel flow rate, what kind of fuel flow do you get on takeoff at sea level full rich?

Thanks for your input. I do have high CHT’s as well. If it was just EGT’s I wouldn’t be as worried and trying to figure out the issue. I don’t like high CHT’s. 440 peak on takeoff. It seems like I need more fuel flow. I still have to check timing and intake leaks first. I’ll keep you posted. Ricky

I asked for 14gph flow, I got what I asked for. They have equipment and expertise to do what you request. Russ did say he had never bumped my carb model up that high. He did what I requested , and I got what I wanted 14gph at departure MORE important , I have cooler CHTs on departure even in muggy hot SE summer temps . Damn happy camper. Prior to change, 100’s of flights data in SAVVY showed 11.2 top flow ever. FIXED!

That’s awesome to hear. I appreciate your input. Thanks.
