Battery versus Case only for FW layout

Question for you experienced builder types. Are purchasing battery cases enough for initial FW equipment layout? I have no real desire to have good batteries laying around for a couple of years. Did this approach bite anyone?

Somebody will probably have a used battery lying around. I've got a dead PC-680 you can have in SoCal.
