ANL fuse and ammeter shunt behind firewall

I've read several posts here on this subject, but still haven't got it clear in my head how to proceed.

I have a G3X panel from Stein with a sub-panel for main bus power in distributing it to the power and avionics busses.

The RV-14 plans show the P912 from the battery master and the P909 from the alternator passing through the firewall, presumably to meet at the main bus power in connection point, but it doesn't provide any more details and advice. It seems to be good practice to have a 60A ANL slow burn fuse between the alternator and main bus and I would also like to place the 50mV 100A ammeter shunt in series on the same line.

Is there any good reason not to mount these two items behind the firewall and adjacent to the main bus power in terminal?
I could mount them on the forward face of the firewall, but it seems that Vans envisage the P909 going straight to the bus input terminal.
