Just put the last few screws in putting her back together after a winter disassembled at home for a new paint job and some general maintenance. I did something wrong with the old paint and it started coming off only a year or two after it was first applied. This time around full acid etch and Stewart Systems epoxy prime and ekocrylic topcoat. The silver turned out great but got a lot of craters and orange peel in the green. Great job and satisfaction when you’ve done something yourself! I know how much work it is to paint an airplane.

Hahah, no, the origional build was in a single car garage at my parents house. Ripped out a section of wall when it came time to fit a wing. Dad is a good sport! I did do a lot of other general maintenance work on the plane in the wilderness shop when I had it at home though. A little chilly in winter time!

I actually got lucky and my neighbor had a nice home spray booth I did everything except the fuselage in. When it came time to paint the fuselage, I built a wooden structure inside the shed and lined it with plastic. Actually worked out quite well.

I do love my dear old "shed". My grandfather built it in the 1960's from used materials, salvaged from an old coal shipping terminal nearby. The siding was made (stamped made in England) a decade before the wright brothers flew!

Looks nice. Envious that you can put a plane in your yard. We have a homeowners association. I rolled the fuselage to the backyard for a week while painting the wings. Neighbors freaked out and had an emergency meeting to pass a new rule disallowing aircraft in your yard. Lady across the street called the police on me 3 times when she smelled paint fumes.

I hope this time around everything holds up for you.
 
Nice! I really like the green color. I could probably count on one hand the number of times that I’ve been asked to paint green.

Thats brutal Larry! Sadly stuff like that can put such a general damper on the fun of building. I had a neighbor like that (not as extreme) next door where I built the project. They moved in long after I started building. Came by one Wednesday afternoon and complained about riveting noise. I politely reminded her as per bylaws Im allowed to start at 7am on weekdays. Then, in not as polite a manner, told her if she didnt want me to start at 7am she'd better get off my property. Never heard anything again, but we did get the stink eye when we tied it down and ran the engine in the driveway!

most were pretty good, just a few bad apples. one young lady came by and said i see you working here every day and looks cool. she asked to interview me for her college journalism project. she filmed a video on how to set rivets. other neighbor invited me to his sons wedding. he told me one day someone came by trying to sell him an alarm system. He said what would I need that for, my neighbor is out there every night untill 11:00. I actually made several friends, as most were intrigued and couldn't believe someone was building an airplane in their garage.

I did get carried away a few times and was asked nicely to keep the noise down after 10:00.

So this is a small world in aviation; I stopped for the night at a little airport on Vancouver Island and did an evening walk along the fence…spotted this pretty green/silver RV-6. Well huh, that looks familiar!

Just an FYI for those traveling in the Vancouver area; the Courtenay Airpark near Comox is a great stop! It’s a beautiful little airport with a hotel and Ace Brewing (beer!!) just yards away. Nice place!IMG_8558.jpeg
