Two years ago while I was looking for something to do I decided to work on the airbox even though I didn?t have an engine yet. As it turned out I drilled the airbox mount plate for nutplate rivets which was a mistake. I didn?t realize that until now that my engine is hung and I started working on the airbox again. Not wanting to mess up an otherwise ?Perfect? airplane I ordered a replacement plate from Vans. The replacement plate I received is identical to the original plate, same cutouts and holes other than an additional 5 extra holes (AN3 size) around the carburetor throat area (actually about 1? from the throat). My old airbox instructions make no mention of these 5 holes and I?m not sure what I?m supposed to do with them. I suspect this replacement mount plate is a newer perhaps more universal plate, I really don?t know. My engine is a vanilla 0320 with a Precision carb and the extra 5 holes in the mount plate don?t appear to be relevant to anything I have. The new mountplate DOES have the 4 holes my original plate had that line up with my Precision carb. I was wondering if anybody that had a newer airbox kit that included this newer style mount plate would also have newer instructions that explained what the 5 holes were for and what to do with them? If they are supposed to be plugged for some installations do they recommend a way to plug them?
