accumulated water in the bottom of the rudder

MSFT-1

Well Known Member
I noticed that the white nav light on the bottom back edge of the rudder of my RV10 was burned out. I took the lens off and found that it was about a third full of water. The bulb itself was burned out but also had a bunch of rust on it.

New bulb = $22 from Spruce.

I seem to recall a discussion about drilling a drain hole in the bottom of the rudder but I think it was about other models (RV6A?). Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts/guidance on preventing water accumulation in this area on the RV-10?

thanks.

Drill a drain hole................. The next time you are out on the ramp, look at production A/C to see how they locate drain holes.

Just pick the lowest point on the rudder bottom and drill a 1/8" hole in that location. You won't hurt any thing by doing that, unless of course you drill through a wire.
