Trip Report: Flying over TX, CO, WY, ID, OR, CA, NV back to TX over 4 day weekend
Well after a bit of a delay here is my trip report flying from DFW area to Eugene Oregon and back to pick up my daughter from the University of Oregon.
The plan was to fly to Eugene in a day and spend a day to help her finish packing and move her things into storage. Then we would fly back in 2 days with a stop to see my cousin in AZ. My daughter told me she had 2-3 bags she wanted to take back but knew from experience this would grow, glad the -10 holds a lot!
So after looking at the weather and doing some planning I went on VAF to see if anyone was interested in a one-way flight to Eugene or anywhere near my planned flight path (remember, I did not know how much stuff my daughter wanted brought back home). I posted on VAF and Steven (nevetsw18) contacted me and was interested, having just moved to take a job at Lockheed here in Fort Worth from Oregon.
Here is the -10 at 0600 ready to start. The weather to 4V1 (Spanish Peak, CO) was MVFR but forecast to clear to VFR in an hour. The only other weather on route was a local band of scattered rain South of Amarillo.
After topping off with fuel, we launched at 0700. Here we are 22minutes later nearing Wichita Falls ? headwinds were about 20 knots.
Here is the obligatory selfie! Steven enjoyed fling the -10, his first flight in an RV. He posted about his experience here: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=151213&highlight=Oregon
Unfortunately the weather in Colorado got worse instead of improving as forecast with the ceiling dropping. After finding a hole to get below the broken deck we diverted to KPUB (Pueblo) for fuel and to create Plan B. It was 54 deg, windy and raining when we refuel with both of us in shorts and short sleeve shirts!
