Shenandoah IA overnight stop

A couple of us Rvers are thinking of stopping at KSDA for the cheaper fuel and possibly to spend the night there on the way to Oshkosh (weather permitting) . Any comments on using KSDA as an overnight stop? Shows courtesy cars available and several motels and restaurants close by. Then a short 2 hr flight to KOSH the next morning.

I cannot comment on KSDA, but 100 miles further along the track to Oshkosh I have used KIKV a few times. Good support, nearby hotels and several restaurants. Gas is certainly higher though.

I am hangared at the airport to the North 17 NM Red Oak KRDK with a RV9A we have a community hangar for around $25 a night or ramp parking for free. Good fuel prices, there are a couple of hotels and a crew car. Past years we always get some traffic and I look forward to meeting anyone if I know.

How's the grass strip at KRDK for RV's? I have a 7 and I want to add grass strips into my logbook.

Do you know about hangar availability at KRDK? Moving back there (Glenwood) and looking for a hangar, I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone at KRDK. Talked to a guy at Shenandoah, and he was looking into getting one for me, but I haven't heard back.

Maybe adding a grass strip to your log book is a good thing but is it wise to be trying something new on your way to greatest airshow on earth with all the pressure that that entails, just asking.
As I have said for years for people coming to The Big Show: If you haven't done it at home, don't try it here! Does that include that tight left base to final on runway 18? Yes. Should have practiced that at home. Just saying............

A runway passes through the midpoint of the grass runway so sometimes it can launch you back up. It has been rolled a couple times this year but I have not been on it yet.

We are building a new hangar starting this year but probably wont be finished until 2027 some time. Call the airport and get your name on the waiting list. A new airport manager just started this month.
