What did you do with your RV this weekend?

I took the -6 up for a proficiency hop Saturday morning around 0800 to see if I could still do it. By the time I got back on the ground, it seemed a lot of RV folks around the country had the same idea. Sentry not showing traffic on my phone in FF (current firmware, four green lights and reboot - researching), batteries low in headset, headset jack loose, drop of brake fluid on the cockpit floor, two stripped screws on the left wheel pant I need to address, the double sided sticky tape holding my shade up is 10 years too old. And I need an oil change.

Universe, “Hey dumb dumb, you wanted this.”
Me, “Yes I did.”
Universe, “Well, deal with it.”

Good advice ;^). Down for an oil change and some love. The descending turn to final was inside 1171 and the high voltage lines. And satisfying. The bomber patterns students use on weekends here at 52F can sometimes have us rolling our eyes, and thankfully I got there before the weekend push. Scorch said hey on the handheld which had me thinking my landing would be graded. Bounced a little, and it turns out he didn’t see it. Life is good.

Good start to the weekend, and looking forward to hearing what RV things you got to do.

Took my Father in law on a rip around San Francisco! And the next day took a trip down to Santa Maria KSMX to scope a potential paint shop. Lots of cool flying things in all different stages of painting.

Slogged my way through bounciness and around rain all the way to KLZD, Danielson CT USA, for a little (or maybe a lot of…) leaky tank work. Very friendly and helpful NY controller quizzed me at length about the different types of RVs, because he wants to build one. Got a ride back home to W96, Quinton VA USA, right over JFK, in the Glasair Sportsman that I used to own part of. Took the back seat so that my CFII buddy’s student, newly graduated from Yale and commissioned in the USAF (and already instrument rated!), could get more IFR XC experience. She did amazingly well! I’m impressed with the Air Force’s personnel selection practices. All in all, a glorious time.

I flew the 62nd annual Hayward Air Rally with my daughter. The rally was a 252 mile course from Hayward, Ca to McClellan Field in Sacramento. Participants are given 6 checkpoints the night before and you submit fuel and time estimates before departure. Timing ends at flyover at Cameron Park, fuel is to the final destination at McClellan.

This was our rookie year and we flew against 16 other crews. Being rookies (one of two rookie crews this year), our only goal was to have a fun flying weekend and maybe learn a little bit along the way. It was a bumpy ride with just enough room to safely fly between clouds and terrain of the Vaca Mountains and Sierra Nevadas.

We won the rally! Best Rookie and First Place! We were 25 seconds off from our time estimate, and missed fuel by .01 gallons.

Big Congrats to you and your daughter! Great job!!!

Did a short hop over to one of my favorite spots, Gillies Bay on Texada Island BC. Good camping at the airport and even better on the beach. This mission was a day trip to fill up a couple buckets of clams and oysters with my Dad, and made a big pot of chowder when we got home.

Man… you guys posting from Vancouver Island or the SFO Bay Area are making me jealous with the beautiful scenery and summer weather… nice! Meanwhile here in S Texas we’ve arrived at that time of year where it’s just too hot, too humid, and I just don’t have much interest in flying. One of these days I’ll make my escape…

Haha well the opposite is true in the winter... Oh how Id wish for a break in the rain so I can actually fly in the winter occasionally!

Didn't get any pictures on my phone, but we had family at a beach house on Port Aransas and we had a window of exactly one day to go play on the beach. It's a 7+ hr drive for us each way, so of course we made the trip in 2.4 first thing in the morning and had my sister pick us up at the airport. Kids played in the surf all day, back in the air about 6:30 for a landing at home just at sunset, life is good.

Had a great trip to Chilbolton, with RV6 G-OBUZ and a Sport Cruiser then a nice walk to The Mayfly pub for lunch overlooking the river Test.
Return walk was via another portion of the river Test through Cow Common which is a chalk bottomed river with crystal clear water.

Again standard clear UK weather
