RV6 Interior - am I out of luck?

I will be in need of an interior kit for an RV6. I am working on purchasing one that only has upholstered seats. I’ve looked around and it seems no one is making kits anymore. I sent an email to a company in Germany but I am waiting to hear back.

Anyone know someone/somewhere that can get me good to go? Thanks guys

You may have to call, but the 6 is still the most numerous model, so there is a market and I’m sure they still have the patterns.

Maybe check in to a local auto upholstery shop to do your seats. I’ve done that and was very pleased with the results. If you want your sidewalls, etc upholstered, consider doing that yourself. I’ve also done that and it turned out very nice. On my latest RV6, I had my seats, armrests, and stick boots (RV6) done by DJ at Cleveland Airtool. DJ and her team has done two of my RV builds, and their work is very good and reasonably priced. She may have retired form this laborious line of work, but it’s worth checking. On this latest (and last) build, I didn’t do anything to the sidewalls and other areas in the cabin other than paint that I did, and it looks great (in my opinion) and my bird is light, so I’m faster than all my buddies……. that’s really the goal isn’t it??

Lemke was responsive as of November, though their production queue is very long, just under a year.

Thanks all. Classic Aero was the first shop I called, and unfortunately they do not produce RV6 panels anymore. Every shop I found online stopped production, but there is one I have not heard back from. I forget the name but they are out of Wisconsin.

I sent an email to Lemke today but it sounds like a local upholstery shop might be the best way to go. I’ll play it by ear

NG,
You have upholstered seats, how much more weight do you want to add? You're in the south, so local flying won't see single digit outside air temperatures.

I guess they’re not really necessary. Thanks for the perspective. New to the RVs so I’m trying to hit the ground running

I was thinking the same thing. I really value useful load and you'd be surprised how quickly weight adds up when you add footwell carpet, side panels, carpet in the baggage area, etc. I weighted the carpet I made for the baggage compartment when I built the -6, determined it weighed 7 pounds, and set it aside forever.

OK then. Here's a suggestion. Read all the posts you can by: DanH, DeltaRomeo, Ed_Wischmeyer, Ironflight, mahlon_r, Mel, and rvbuilder2002.
That will be a great start.

Be prepared. Long lead times are the norm. Last interior work I had done by Flightline (new seats only) went almost 9 months.

I would recommend Abbey with Flightlineinteriors.com. Abbey was very helpful on my seats, and carpet set for my 6A recently.

If interested I have a brand new set of Oregen Aero Seat foam for an RV6 and two different leather hides (light gray and dark gray). I had planned on having my local guy do my interior for the six. He did a beautiful job on my rocket. Sadly, he passed away and I went with a Lemke interior. You will find the Oregon aero seat cushions very comfortable and hard to beat.

How much do you want for that setup? I am starting a RV6 build with my high school class. Should be a fun project

I'm in the same boat, my RV-6 is in desperate need of new interior side panels and carpet. Sadly, not many places are making them anymore so I may have to go the custom route or do it myself.

Lots of DIY options. First, fly it like it is, decide if you need armrests, ect. Simple sheetmetal side panels to cover the wiring/cables/ect are easy to make, and keep clean. I did that with my -4, no frills, very light. These same panels can be covered in fabric if that's the look you like. RV-6/4 were all hand built and may differ slightly, so even store bought interiors may need some modification. Don't look at interior as a great sound deadener, but more of a snag reducer and clean look.

It is an experimental homebuilt; there is no such thing as “out of luck” with upgrades or modifications.
DYI. Way more rewarding than writing a check and fun. Just make sure you use materials that don’t cause hazardous fumes when burned.

TheNewGuy,
Oregon Aero makes nice looking seats.

I had an upholstery shop do the seats for my -4. I picked out a fine leather Hyde from https://hidehouse.com/
The color and quality was just what I wanted.
I was also able to create multi-layered memory foam cushions. It was easy-just an old bread slicing knife (with my spouse's approval). 5 min job. These seats were instrumental in saving my life during a crash.
Total job within budget.

Do you still have a gray Oregon Aero Seat?
