Toying with the possibility of partner in my RV10 project

Hi all,

I am currently working on a RV10 QB. Things are going much slower than I anticipated. I started the build in November 2023. I have all the kits except the firewall forward. Engine delivery is expected end of May. I just turned 73 and at the rate I’m progressing, I’m afraid I won’t get to fly it. The project is in Cumberland Md, so I’m a bit isolated from other builders. Any ideas on finding help to build or partnerships?
Thanks,

Dan

First off, let me say that partnerships are the best. Its hard to find a person that shares your philosophy and approach, but if you do, it makes the process more fun, easier, and less expensive.

EAA chapters near you might be a good starting point. Flight schools and mechanic shops are a couple other 'in the know' groups.

There are also people you can hire to help with the build. Jay Pratt comes to mind as one.

Quite honestly you need to be careful here. Some ‘assist’ shops teach you how to do the work correctly, faster, which is perfectly legit. But shops that do the work for you are often ‘over the line (the 51% line)’, especially with a QB kit.

I think it’s easier to find a pilot partnership than a builder partnership. After I finished building my RV8 , I realized I am more of a pilot than a builder. If I am building at 73, I would be glad to pay for help to speed up the build

Dan I share your thoughts. I'm 71 and recently started daydreaming a 9a build. After spending a couple of hours drooling over pics and price lists I realized my daydream might be a pipe dream.. In your shoes I believe your thoughts are excellent 👌 a build partner would/should speed things up

I'm not sure how far along you are but a 10 build is a giant time suck. Even with QB wings and fuselage it "looks" like it's getting close but as they say 90% done 90% to go and that is not just a saying. The cabin top is a huge time constraint and if one is not good with fiberglass even more difficult. If you are looking to have a professional complete your interior upholstery PM me. They are located in West Virginia and excellent quality.

Trading labor for equity would be a possible idea. Your airports in the area I know are limited but posting a note at the FBO might get some responders. Good luck and in the end it's worth it!

How much do you have completed, and are you flying something in the meanwhile?
The empennage kit is mostly complete. Autopilot servo, pitot/AOA and lights installed and wired in the wings.I will probably be closing up the wings next week. Floor pans removed on fuselage.

I’d be willing to trade flying privileges for labor. Im not looking for someone to takeover the build. But a knowledgeable helper would be fantastic!

I know a great mechanic who has a lot experience working on an RV10, recently retired, and moved to Maryland. Send me a DM and I’ll give you his contact info.
