Ailerons Build

Does anyone have pictures of the right and left ailerons being built? I know that a few have had to backtrack because of the spar orientation. Just wanting to avoid building it upside down. The plans only show the left aileron, so I’m sure the right is a mirror image of the left, but pictures help.

If you look at sheet 34-05 you can see that the spacing of the 2 sets of holes for the end ribs on each side is different. Use that to help you orientate the spar properly.

Just finished them today.
Make sure you build them side by side in a mirror image position. It helps a ton. (Sorry, I don't have any pictures)
I do think Van's will need to publish at least a picture for the right side to avoid issues.

When I finished riveting the ribs to the spars I stopped and did the same for the right one.

Fitting the tube and getting the right orientation takes some time. Final drill the tube and temporary attached, then cleco the front skin to make sure it is correct.

This is the best I could do. I mirrored my left aileron (right picture). So at least you get a good idea of orientation of most of it. Sorry I don't have a spar picture but it is pretty clear if you build them side by side.

Using the same company I used to print out my regular KAI's, I asked them to mirror the pdf file and print it as well. Obviously, I'm only using it for the images but I think it should help keep things correct when I get to the build. I keep them in a separate binder just for Right Wing images.

I did just what others suggested. I am building the two ailerons across from each other as mirror images. That really helps in orientation. I clecoed everything together this afternoon, including the leading edge and aft skins. I then disassembled, completed all of the countersinking, finished scruffing surfaces and I am ready to prime mating surfaces. I think the actual riveting will go pretty quickly. I did the same mirror image assembly for the flaps, visible in the background.

Haven’t done it yet but I was thinking trim it slightly long with an Dremel cut-off wheel and hand file to square. I’m interested to hear what others do as well.

This is what I was going to do. This will give me the most control.
