AI Paint Prototyping

I found a great use for Generative AI in the recent days - prototyping some paint schemes. I've been manually drawing some designs on the 3-view pages i printed out, but could never really visualize things properly. I recently finished a flight and took some nice pictures of my -7 in the sunset. Well, I uploaded a few images of my plane and then began trying things out. It got a little crazy, but I think it did a very decent job of bringing my vision to life. Now whether any of these schemes are actually reasonable or not is open for debate ;) All of this is for fun as I don't have the budget in place to actually paint my plane at the moment. All my monies are being used to enjoy flying!

Just to be clear, my actual plane is shiny silver with nothing painted except some primer on the fiberglass tips.

That's amazing. I wonder if that AI person could draw Adobe AI files for vinyl wrap printing? It would need seam lines matching the natural skin overlaps for some skins. Example, my forward top skin overlaps the side skins either side at the seam by 1/4".

You probably would need a special AI tool. I have found that the general purpose ones tend to end up with minor errors here and there. It works great for getting a good idea of what you want though. Also works for home renovations. I uploaded a picture of my kitchen and one of some cabinets i liked and it spit out a picture of my kitchen with those cabinets installed (i now have a project when the RV-9 is out of the garage)

I actually tried this. Now in all fairness I spent like 30 seconds on the prompt, but it did generate an "unfolded" wrap. it didnt have any of the context of skins, overlap, dimensions, or anything that would make it possible to use, but it did so something. Honestly though Its probably easier to take the image and work with a real vinyl wrap company to generate a real product

Thanks- I can finally put my crayons away!

My granddaughter is a graphic artist. Her job is vinyl graphics for trucks and such. I was just curious. Don't want to bother her at work. Hope AI doesn't take her job either.

Which AI tool did you use? I like the geometric design

I was playing around with ChatGPT and asked it to create a patriotic paint scheme with a waving flag on the tail and then I asked it to create a paint scheme with a metallic candy apple red and silver and this is what it came up with. The patriotic paint scheme is exactly what I had in mind but I like the red and silver as well.

This literally took less than 5 minutes to create both.

I tried doing this with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini and got bad results. It appears that they are only aware of the 14A and one of them tried to bastardize a -8 to look like a -14A...I guess I'm no good with AI prompts.

Thought I'd give it a try. Now see how close I come to getting it to look like the Ai. Yep 4 blades in front.
