Yet another RV-10 build #43228

Hi,

I am located in the northern part of Germany and I am in the process of starting the build of a new RV-10.

I ordered the (almost) full kit on 01/26/2026.
The Estimated lead time on the Empennage was 4 weeks, Wing 8 weeks, Fuselage 10 weeks, Finish Kit 12 weeks. After several days, I received the estimated crating dates.

I think I will go with self organized shipping as I received a quotation of about 4,2k€ from a local shipping agency. I have not received a price from vans yet but according to the shipping information, it would be around 8 - 10k$ . Lets see when/if Vans responds to my enquiries.

On beginning of January, I also took advantage of the https://www.aircraft-tool.com/ Christmas sale (which went on until end of January) and ordered my tools.
Unfortunately, some items (for example the squeezer) are still on backorder but are foreseen to be in stock beginning of march.

However, I already started with the build of the workshop and tools, beginning with the tables. I opted for an aluminium framework with the size of the standard EAA tables.
So, drilling and adding connectors to the framing.


Then adding the wooden top, a bit of lineseed oil, and voila! Two tables are ready.
The shop is currently still a bit cramped (bicycles will move and the Aircamper parts will be sold). The bottom of the tables will also receive a wooden sheet so I can put more stuff onto it.

When you receive the various parts and if placing them on shelving keep track of where they are. I helped my friend Dan do this and each line item was given a shelf location to help find the parts later.

Thanks, that's a good tip! I think I will buy some shelves to store everything.

The kit is payed and I am now waiting for an estimate of the shipping cost from vans. Unfortunately, there seems to be a one question per Mail policy, at least only my first question is answered

In addition, my tools have finally shipped. Meaning I can start building the dimpler and the Vans trainings kit.

In the meantime, I bought a steel plate and polished it to use it as a back-riveting plate.
I also bought a 20x25mm piece of steel to build the bucking bar for the empennage. Milled it down to 19mm (to get 3/4 inch), clamped and milled it at an angle to get the specific cutout. Then polished it.




The next part was mounting the HAAS Wheels (available for 19€ directly from HAAStooling ). As the bore on the wheel was bigger than the shaft on the bench grinder, I printed an adapter. Works great!

We are still ongoing with the tools, no RV10 yet.

I created some 3D printed tools for the shop.

Cleco Caps to not scratch the Primed /painted surface (printed from TPU). I do not know if this is needed at all but having is better than needing it. . If anyone needs it, I uploaded my design for you to print.

In the meantime, the tools arrived from ATS! This means, I can start with the Airfoil practice set and set the first rivets (after I build a dimpler).


Next stop will be building a Dimple tool, similar to the DRDT2
