High School aviation/A&P program?

di3dka

I'm New Here
Does anyone know of a high school or public vocational program where they teach aviation or A&P prep? At the KPSP airport I have a I have a RV-14 Empennage kit that I would gladly give away for students to practice construction techinques on. Only 2 catches:
  1. They would need to come and pick it up and bring enough people to lift it into their truck.
  2. They need to take two old 8x10 carpets that need to be thrown out 🤣
I ordered my RV-14 early in COVID and after nearly two years of waiting for the rest of my kit the bankrupcy filings happened. This was the era when there was cracking found in the laser cut holes of the sheeting. Being totally demoralized I did not follow up to see if my empennage kit was affected so its quite possible the some of the parts in the kit are unsafe for use. This is why I am not selling it and would prefer it just be used for students practicing construction techinques.

As an aside, I am a success story of a high school aviation program where groundschool was taught. I got my private pilot license in 11th grade because of this program and went on to build my own aircraft. The RV-14 would have been my second project.

Based on my attempt to interest my childrens' government high school in such a project some years ago, I would suggest not wasting time on public schools. Contact instead your local EAA chapter and ask members if they know of any home school groups or private or charter schools of their interest. Check also with local technical colleges. Jerry Yagen's amazing AIM private A&P schools might be interested. EAA chapters used to build aircraft as a club project, but lawyers and the EAA itself made this difficult. And I would not throw the baby out with the bath water regarding laser-cut aircraft aluminum, which is widely used in industry.

My sons HS has one that he participates in and they had planned on getting a kit to build. Too bad you're on the opposite side of the US.

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology - Riverside Campus might be interested. 951-400-4992

Enid public High School in Enid Oklahoma just completed an RV-12 and flew is two weeks ago. The story appeared in the Enid News and Eagle, although it was not a long article.

I operate a newly formed aviation program here in Wyoming; building an RV-12iS among other aviation topics. It's a little far for me to go and get (as well as lack of storage currently) but I just wanted to thank you on behalf of us public educators what your doing!

Contacting EAA is an excellent idea!

Thank YOU for making a difference!!!!

I am not having any luck finding anyone willing to come and pick this up. I really hate the idea of sending this kit to the dump next week but I need the space in my hangar. If you know of ANYONE who wants this empennage kit for free, they can have it if they pick it up at PSP before Feb 14.

If you’re truly ready to give it away to the first one who picks it up, put an ad in the Classified’s here - it kind of gets lost in this thread.

For a reasonable person this is good advice but after losing my deposit on this kit in the bankrupcy, it hurts too much to pay another $25 to get classified access to give my kit away. I will just sell it as scrap aluminum.
