My wife (also a pilot) and I flew our RV-9A to Amelia's Hangar at KPWT for lunch in sunny blue skies! Over the years, KPWT (Bremerton, WA) has always had an airport restaurant, and the food and service have always been wonderful, especially their famous fresh cod fish-n-chips! After the restaurant was recently rebuilt and renamed Amelia's Hangar, things got even better! One of our favorite short-day winter "milk runs".

I had a somewhat productive weekend. I finished up the installation of some new LED landing lights on the Rocket. I used some pieces from the original light brackets to make the job easier. The builder used a hinge pin along the bottom to secure the bracket and then had a control horn of sorts at the top that is tied to a servo that adjusts the angle of light. One servo seems to be in operative, so I disabled the servo function and am now relying on the design of the FlyLED light that uses two of the seven LEDs pointed downward for taxi. I haven’t flown with the new setup yet, so we’ll have to see how it works. It sure is bright against my hangar wall!
Today I spent a little time trying to fabricate a panel mount solution for a Garmin Aera 660 handheld GPS. I’d like it to look like a normal panel mounted touchscreen GPS. I started by laying about five layers of 7 ounce cloth flat on a desktop surface. Once cured, I cut the fiberglass into the shape and size I needed to fabricate the mounting bezel. I’ve then glued the pieces together using resin and flox. My next step will be cutting the hole to backmount the GPS and then figuring out a solution to mount it to my normal radio rack. Stay tuned for future updates.
Oh… I almost forgot to add… I also flew to breakfast this morning. Went by myself this time, which is nice to do sometimes.

I, too, had lunch at Amelia's today. It's a little farther for me, but not bad (maybe 45 minutes). That gives me more time to experiment with LOP operations. I was able to get down to 6.2 gph at 22" x 2300 at 6K'. And still maintained 140 kts (5 kt almost direct crosswind at altitude). I'm happy with that.
Probably my third time to Amelia's for lunch or breakfast. It's a very scenic flight from the Portland area when the sun is out. And today was a really nice day to fly.

First trip of the year and we started off with a 216 knot GS. It’s going to be a great year!
KFYE - KRMN to pick up my wife from a DC business trip. Then to 14A to look at a house and explore Lake Norman/Charlotte. Then back to KFYE Sunday. It was a great weekend, plus we meet some new RV friends.
The winds were better higher but so was icing.

I'm pretty sure they're closed on Mondays ............
Yes -- Amelia's Hangar Restaurant at Bremerton (KPWT) is closed on Mondays. The Spruce Goose Cafe at Jefferson County (0S9) is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Ellie's Cafe at Arlington (AWO) opened daily. And, Buzz Inn at Harvey Field (S43) in Snohomish is open daily.

What to do when you procrastinate doing your canopy. It's -17 outside.
Needless to say, for those who have done their own wiring know, I did not do all this in one weekend (well over 50 hours).
But today I plugged the last 3 wires in and powered it up.
All worked, no breakers popped, whole system on drawing just shy of 5A

Never made it. Didn't clear off until after noon at Thun and my friend had to get beck early for an appt but thanks for future heads up.

Reassembled the -6A after some painting work, and decided to a day trip to Galveston to enjoy a Southeast Texas winter day. Other than a great trip with my wife, I had two notable radio moments. Approaching the field, the tower asked me to slow for the Cirrus ahead. Then, after landing, the controller commented, ‘I bet that’s a real hot rod!’ Told him, "Yes - she's pretty quick," taxiing behind and still waiting on the Cirrus.

Give those Cirrus drivers a wide berth! They’ve been known to perform full power starts as well as full power taxi while riding the brakes!
