New EarthX Backup Battery

I wish the battery portion was replaceable much like the TCW instead of buying a whole new one when the battery life is up.

I would agree, but having just purchased a replacement 6a backup battery from TCW, the cost with shipping was $300 (vs $400 for the EarthX). Unfortunately, something is either wrong with the replacement TCW battery or the TCW unit has developed a problem and now I’m returning the replacement TCW battery and I ordered the EarthX. For the extra $100, I’ll be buying slightly more capacity.

That is another sad fact that big companies buy these little companies and jack up the price. I have replaced mine and another friend's TCW battery just before they were bought out and the charge was $159, nearly have the cost.
Now lets hope EarthX is not purchased by Hartzell or some other big company as that unit may end up being $799 instead of $400.
And in all of these, I just feel so powerless to do anything about it.

We used to roll our own before the TCW became popular.
I just had to replace my backup battery this past spring on my old fashioned "roll our own" backup system. Although the AH on my unit does not compete with the 8 AH of the EarthX, the replacement battery only cost $15.00. It comes with slide on crimped terminals so is an easy install. I can buy a huge number of replacement batteries at this price before I ever hit the price point of TCW or EarthX.

Steve, are you using this as a back-up efis battery?

The backup battery is only feeding the pilot EFIS and the AHRS. It truly is for emergency. That battery is rated for 2.5 AH. That gives me about 1 hour of use for those instruments. If I have an electrical failure that causes all instruments to go dark I flip a switch to power those two instruments and get on the ground as fast as possible. Keep in mind my plane is not equipped for IFR.

It seems all reference to this backup battery has disappeared from the EarthX site. I can't find anywhere to buy it. Is the product still in development?
