I'm New Here
Has anyone used Synergy Air South, located in Newnan, GA, services in the build of their RV-14 or any other aircraft?
Can you comment on your overall experience with them?
I'm a first time builder and I'm considering working with them to get experience with build tools and techniques.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ken

I hate replies that don't directly answer the question, but will do so now. We took the EAA sheet metal class, it helped a lot. But I still needed to make my own mistakes. Class plus practice kits and reordering some things has worked for me so far.

I will send you a DM rather than a very long story here.

What I suggest to most first time builders is the following - at the very least take the Fundamentals class. If you can afford the time and the money, follow that up with the Empennage Build class. In two weeks, you will have a completed set of tail feathers and tail cone. You will move quickly up the learning curve and understand what quality work looks like - without finding out much too late that your build quality is not good.

Can you build the plane without doing this? Probably. Thousands have done so with varying degrees of success. My opinion is that you will build a better airplane and be more likely to actually finish (thousands more have never finished) by going to a build assist facility like SAS.

Cliff notes version - I’ve built two airplanes with Synergy Air/Synergy Air South and am a huge fan.

If you're planning to build the aircraft yourself, I think you can save yourself time and money by finding a local builder or two to show you the ropes. Riveting is something you can teach yourself after a few pointers. It is a few simple settings, then some tactile feel, sound, and (mostly) practice. Chapter 5 of the instruction manual in any of the Van's kits is worth reading and re-reading several times - it covers all of the necessary building techniques in enough depth that you should be able to move forward.

Allen Nelson and his team at Synergy Air South are one of the finest group of craftsmen you will find in the industry. We have shipped many products to their facility on behalf of their customers, and toured their shops in early 2024. It is no surprise that their customers are often among the prize winners for homebuilts at SnF and OSH. I suggest you stop by to see them in Newnan for a closer look at how they work with builders.

We (Wife and I) did the fundamental class and then our -10 empennage & tailcone because we don’t know anyone with experience. They are good folks, the main benefit was the number of times that Allen said “we’re going to do this out of order because of “x” down the road”. I did expect a little closer supervision and critique than we got, there are some rivets that I will drill out and re-set before closing up the tail cone. 2 weeks goes by fast, an awful lot to do!
You should take charge of your education when you’re there, ask questions & use the lunch hour to look over the other projects and try to learn something.

I'll second the praise for Allen at synergy south. Wife and I built our RV10 empenage kit there.
She really appreciated the no judgement guidance while I especially appreciated the extensive knowledge and build hints. I wish I lived closer for the rest of the build.

I have no experience with them, but I will say this after building for 4 years, the empennage class offering seems totally worth it in hindsight.

I spent so much time reading up on other information, 431.13, and doing research, doing some trial and error on parts, a lot of re-orders from vans etc.

The class definitely would have saved me time, and probably money, even at the cost they are charging.

Steve and I have worked quite a bit with both Synergy West, and Synergy South. Ive made numerous day trips to Newnan to see and work with Allen and his staff on various projects, both new installs and prototyping things for our eventual packages.
