Dynon D180 Oil Pressure Sensor Swap Help

I had a VDO oil pressure sensor that occasionally acts up. I tried replacing it with a new Dynon pressure sensor for 150psi. It was hard enough getting one that is part number 105492-002. The problem is I didn’t notice the note on stein air that it is not compatible with legacy D180. I found that out the hard way ground running with this sensor. I could not get an accurate reading. I installed the 6.8 Ohm resistor. I toggled through sensor type 5 or 1-5 and none displayed correctly.

Part number 103757-000 is on the Kavlico Dynon Addendum for D180 installs. Why can’t I find these for sale anymore? Anyone else have this problem? Why isn’t the currently sold probe by Dynon compatible? Attached are pics of the new probe and the addendum part numbers.

The VDO pressure sensor is resistive whereas a 3-wire Kavlico sender would need excitation power supply and wiring change. The VDO sensors do wear out eventually, especially if subject to vibration and they are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace.

It will probably be simplest to fit a replacement VDO sensor with same part number as is stamped on the base of the old sensor. The VDO sensors are readily available from many sources e.g. summitracing.com:

Thanks. I’m familiar with the upgrade process. I already have 5V reference and ground for my Kavlico fuel pressure sensor. I’d like to stick with the newer design if possible.

OK, I wasn't sure from the original post. I've got both a D180 and a Skyview (in different planes) and I use the VDO resistive sensor with the D180 and the revised Kavlico sensors with the Skyview.

Since D180 is a legacy product, it may be that the revised Kavlico sensors were released (due to leaks with the earlier part) after development had ceased for D180 (just guessing) hence the note from Steinair stating that it is not compatible with D180. At least there is an alternative (VDO) if you cannot get the Kavlico to work.

Here is the info on the leak problem Dynon addressed. They call out new part numbers for these sensors compatible with D180. I can’t find these for sale anywhere.

The Dynon sensor I was able to buy is not listed on this addendum. It seems to be electrically identical from spec sheets I can find online 0.5-4.5V for 0PSI to 150PSI so I don’t understand why it wouldn’t work. Short of experimenting with it off the plane under pressure and a voltmeter I won’t be able to know for sure,

Looks like Dynon has sensor 103757-000 listed on their ordering guide/price list for $156. For whatever reason they don't have all the sensors listed for sale on their online store. Might be best to give them a call to order.

There's also a service bulletin associated with these sensors too.
 
Got the Dynon official answer from tech support basically the new Dynon sensor does not work with the D180. If anyone has the 103757 I’d buy it.
