Hi Folks,

I know many do go the McMaster Carr route, but I'm sticking with the standard seal. Now Vans in the instruction does say to use 3M™ Clear Super Silicone Seal (3M ID B40066969) .

As 3M does no longer produce that product I wonder what others did use and their experience over the years.

Thanks for your help!

Silicone would not be that high on my list for this application. Use 3m weatherstrip adhesive. Those in the trade call it gorilla snot. Designed for attaching rubber weatherstripping and does it very well. It is a contact cement.

Some of Vans recommendations on the 10 are not that great. Don’t like the weldon 10 for windows either.

When you say many go the McMCarr route what do you mean? I read this as the build up of the door frame with glass method? And you want to put something on the door? Anyway, that is what I think you are writing.

Why not go McMCarr route with a self adhesive product that sticks to the door? I have some at the hangar if you need a photo. I recall discussions here about getting to choose from a. couple sizes.

It's a lot more work to go the McMaster Carr route. The stock seal works just fine, it's just not as sexy as the McMaster Carr. Anyway, I used regular old silicon sealant and after 11 years the seals are still attached without signs of coming off.

I do not understand why you are responding to my post.

There are a lot of products from McMCarr, some are easier. It is not the product that is difficult, it is the method.

These are easy: https://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/121/3497

Sigh. Don't read anything into it. Quoting your post was simply a means to an end. What you initially described is what the 10 community has always meant when referring to McMaster Carr. You could certainly use other products and/or processes, McMaster or otherwise. It's E-AB so whatever tickles your fancy.

I can't find anything definitive but it appears weld-on #10 has been discontinued. Everyone is out of stock and the manufacturer seems to have removed it. Van's doesn't even list it in the store anymore.

Sorry, may have got the number wrong and also don't know what vans is recommending these days for window installation. The one they recommended when I did mine was too rigid for the application from my research. Even weldon said it was a poor fit.

Weld-On #10 is what Van's recommends. I was just pointing out that its days of being used on the 10 windows are probably done.

I'm using the seals listed below, not my idea just something other builders have done. They'll be in the same position as the stock vans seals. I bought several different sizes to try. The seals stick very well in my test. I'm still building so I don't have them installed yet. The link for this type seal is listed below.
