Clam and I flew a day trip to OZ (NW Arkansas) on Friday. Breakfast at Gaston’s (3M0) great trout fishing here. We then overflew a few strips (Richland and Ponca) on the way to Trigger gap. Trigger gap is a great camping spot with toilet, gazebo with fireplace and wood. Finished up at Bentonville (KVBT) for fuel before heading back to KFYE. Definitely more exploring to do in this area.

After escaping the Covid for 5+ years, i finally got it for the first time this week. My 92 year old Dad gave it to me. I have spent last 5 years not trying to get him infected and here he infected me. He was over it in 3 days. It is dragging on to over a week with me.

I am spending my time revising my POH. I am adding more climb curves, adding a IAS to CAS conversion curve, clarifying what is CAS vs IAS vs TAS numbers, updating for some equipment changes, improving my weight and balance tables, and removing some maintenance stuff (that is all in another document and syncing them has always been problematic). Revisiting almost 10 years of recorded flight data to try and tease out some additional charts and plots. Hey, its what an aeronautical engineer does when sick and bored; he finds some data that he can turn into a mammoth spreadsheet. It makes me not feel so sick!

Flew to Abingdon, Virginia (KVJI) just for the heck of it, and because the weather was perfect. Also it’s a good place to spend some $, because tourism here took a hit when Hurricane Helene took out a huge chunk of the very popular Virginia Creeper bike trail.

Flew past Virginia’s highest point, Mt. Rogers. Fond memories of hiking there some years back. We may not have the tallest mountains, but they’re quite scenic and extremely old. 🤣

The formation of the Appalachian Mountains is older than the existence of trees, birds, mammals, and dinosaurs, with the first sharks appearing when the Appalachians were at their peak height.
