Garmin GTR 205X com radio

Now that this radio has been around long enough for Garmin to fix any problems, can anyone comment on the performance of this radio from actual use? The 10 watt transmitter has had good reviews but there have been complaints on the receiver. Does anyone have experience with this radio as to receiver performance? I would just use the Dynon (Trig) radio for my new Skyview panel but I can't live with only six watts (don't ask!). There isn't much chatter on the other forums lately, so maybe whatever perceived receiver problems may have been fixed. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks
 
Are you sure the reported receiver problems are real? Are the reporters reliable? I haven't seen any of these reports, and have installed a couple of the non X radios (GTR-205), with no problems.

I have a couple hundred hours with mine now. No issues receiving or transmitting. Really like having the additional audio inputs allowing me to hear my GRT EFIS audio alerts and get music from my phone to both me and my passenger
 
Penguin, I am not sure of any reports, just read about them on forums. Your feedback is what I am looking for though. Thanks
 
I replaced a GTR20 with a 205Xr about a year ago when they first came out and am very happy with the performance. Even though the GTR20 was an excellent radio and a great value, the 205 seems a little bit better. I often compare the 205 with my GTN750 radio and find them to be almost identical in performance, any perceived difference I associate with the antenna as I use a top mounted antenna with a smaller ground plane for the 205 vs bottom mounted antenna for the GTN with its much larger ground plane.
Spec wise the 205 is definitely better than the 20/200 series.
 
Not flying yet, but I can hear planes in the pattern at the airport 5 miles away with my plane in the garage and antenna on the bottom of the fuselage. With a new 205x.
 
I have what is essentially an open cockpit plane and want to utilize the "keyed ICS" feature of the radio. I have configured the DISC input for this (DISC1) and that switch works BUT it still has a squelch associated with the ICS. I really want that off and to only have the switch activate the ICS to kill off the noise. The pilots manual says this is possible, but doesn't say how and I can't find it in the installation manual. I sent a message to Garmin but they said 3-4 days

What software version is in your radio? I asked around and learned that keyed ICS was improved in GTR 205(X) version 2.21. If it's a non-certified aircraft and you have a GTR 205X, you can download the latest software yourself here.

Garmin wrote back today and was very helpful. I had version 2.20 (as installed as it came from Garmin six months ago or so). Marc from Garmin suggested the same thing you did so I went from 2.20 to 2.30 and that indeed solved the problem! Of note you can only use a 32GB SD card or less (unless you partition it to 32GB or less so it can be formatted to FAT32)-so that drove another trip to Target tonight but the radio works. As always, thank you all for the help
