NYCO Grease GN 3058

Now that Hartzell has specified a new grease, it’s time to get some on the shelf for the new prop.

My question - the prices for this stuff are crazy. Anyone found a reasonable place to buy it?

Carl

Was bored and found this surfing. I have no experience with this source.

Nope:
“As of September 2025, there is no official, verified location for the website aircraftpartssupply.com, and the site is widely suspected of being a scam”.

You need so little grease, this might be a good ‘shared tool’ among Hartzell owners at your airport. But note, you must not mix this with the older Aeroshell grease found in older Hartzells.

Aeroshell 58 meets the same SAE spec as the NYCO grease (SAE AMS3058). That being said, I’m not sure I’d risk using it on my $20k (now $26k) prop unless specifically approved by Hartzell. As others have said, you use at most a few ounces each condition inspection - so at most $10 worth. Not sure I understand the consternation over a few dollars to maintain a many thousand dollar prop.

Yep - it is the principle of the issue. Hartzell has designated a single approved grease. This created the conditions for vendors to sell a (at most) $10 product for $60+. Not because it is of that value but because they can. Just like the rest of the aviation industry.

I consider this the primary threat to working slobs like me being able to fly.

Absolutely. Remember Hartzell was bought out recently by an investor group, who praised Hartzell's "captive market". I wonder if they're also buying out NYCO?

No question that we are “captive” to some companies who have a near monopoly on their market. Certainly true for us here with the manufacturer of our kits - whose prices have greatly increased and policies (like deleting items from a kit) have become less “friendly”.

All that being said, I think we may have lost sight of how fortunate we are to be able to even afford one (or more) airplanes and the freedom we have here to pretty much fly anywhere whenever we choose to.

Yes. Pay site has many redirects. Some JPY (Japan) currency data. Canceled transaction and received several 10% off emails. I will pass…..
