K&N Air Filter for 912ULS...

Cost of aviating is getting expensive…. I replaced my carb air filters and was shocked at the market price for “genuine” Rotax PN. I found a K&N filter on Amazon that is slightly smaller in size for $42 which is still way too money for an air filter. The smaller size has better clearance between hoses on the right side carb. I have been running these air filters for over one hundred hours in all four seasons of the year. Even though the filters are smaller size they are plenty sufficient to flow air for each half of the 1352cc engine running 5500rpm. Fuel flow and engine performance is unchanged from original filters. For what it’s worth….

I'm not following this logic. Air filters by design... filter air.
Everywhere online says the K&N filters are around 94% efficient in filtering, everyone except K&N who says 97-99%.
“K&N air filters are clearly designed to prioritize airflow. While they claim acceptable filtration, independent ISO 5011 testing and expert user observations consistently show they are less effective at filtering fine particulates compared to paper filters.”
That being said I use K&N “style” and clean them at every 100 hr inspection. Using a filter with less surface area as Piper J3 has suggested will increase the air speed across the filter and allow more dirt to pass.

I hangared with a Kitfox that had a 912ULS and in his installation the air filters were smaller. I thought if I ever replaced mine I would consider getting the part number application he used.
