Pilot Accessible Pockets/Storage

I have no storage in my cockpit. So, everything ends up in the foot wells.

I want to be able to securely store things if I took off without a sterile cockpit and want to do some acro. Sunglasses case, cell phone, a USB cable or two. No foot long subs, torque wrenches, or beer bottles.

I'd love to see some ideas that others have come up with that I can shamelessly copy!

Hi @walkman.

Built these from aluminium. It has magnets holding it closed and a finger hole to open them. Brackets that are fitted with double sided tape. You will also need to fabricate a u channel on the bottom to hold it in place and also close the gap.

That is very nice. Good job.

I went the easy route and put one of these on each side. They work pretty well and have stayed in place for years. Also, I couldn't put your panel on the left side because of my headset ports and alternate static port location.

Hooker Harness makes a nice version of that with a zippered closure plus a couple of slip pockets, fits perfectly on the fuselage side of a 9a by your knee

Well, they are hiding it well. Their website maybe in development because nothing seems to lead to a product.

Don’t know how it would work in an 8, but UIAGACBs (Upperdeck-Inspired Aviation-Grade Amazon Chalk Bags) are fantastic storage devices. Thread here.

in the 8 the 11x6” military style tool bags fit well in this spot. Little side pockets are accessible. Velcro or screw the bottom to the cover for negative G.s

I made a storage compartment on the RS between the gear tower and the spar for my "stuff".

I also made this compartment behind the front seat back for the journey log and sick bags.

Here's the cockpit storage I put in my 8. Mostly ideas copied from other builders.

Walkman- contact Abby at Flightline interiors. She knows all the dimensions of the RV-8 and can make custom pockets with Velcro, zippers or whatever you want. I had her make me some pockets for all the RV-8 cutouts and the material is the same as the seats she made me and it all works well. When I’m flying there is nothing loose to float around the cockpit, everything is in a secure pocket.
If you want some pics of mine send me a direct message

I made a similar cloth/leather bag sized to be just a little bit bigger than a folded sectional. Used strong double sided tape to stick some velcro to the side of the cockpit, then have that hold my bag. Velcro closure of the bag. It has stayed in place through +6 -3g.

Did once have the fuel sampler fall out during a slow roll when I had forgotten to close the bag. Fortunately it end up on the back seat where I could just barely reach it.

The Flightline side pockets with velcro flap work well for aerobatics... I think you can have at least six of them in a 14
