Empty weight

I was reading online that the average 'empty' weight for an RV-10 is between 1520-1630 pounds. Ours comes out at 1705. Although we did add a bunch of whistles and bells (autopilot, sound insulation, carpets, etc) I can't see how our plane is coming out at nearly 100 pounds heavier than average.

What is everyone else's empty weight? Our plane is currently up for sale, and I just lost an interested buyer because of this.

Most well equipped RV-10's (clear coat paint, Aerosport or South Florida interior, full IFR panels, dual electrical system) are into the 1700 pound and up range. Those with air conditioning and oxygen are at least 60-70 pounds heavier yet. Personally, I would be a bit skeptical of an empty weight of 1520 pounds.

My -10 was well-equipped and weighed in at 1707. I flew it for 10 years with my wife (130 lbs), one child (~80-100 lbs), and occasionally, our dog (35 lbs). It was always capable of carrying that load and too many bags for me to carry with a smile so even at 1707, it was well worth it for me to have a very nicely equipped airplane and sacrifice some load carrying. Maybe I would feel differently if I had a larger family (in number and size) but don’t be discouraged by someone who complains about your empty weight. Your plane didn’t suit that individuals mission and that’s fine. You’ll find a nice couple who doesn’t care about weight but prefers the ease of ingress/egress, spacious interior, bells and whistles, etc.
