Before NOON on July 17, 2025, OSH Tower is just like any other "D" airspace where you need to be in communication with the tower.
They may not know where to send you after you land so I will let someone else tell you how to get to where you want to park and or camp.

Before Friday you’ve got to know the taxi route to wherever you want to park as there won’t be any marshallers and as stated Ground might not have a clue where HBC or HBP or any other parking area is.

From his post from over on the EAA forums: "Starting on Monday, July 14th, keep an eye out for The Daily Weather Roundup, with live analysis of the weather for anyone planning to fly to the event or if you want to learn more about how to interpret all of those pesky forecasts. You can ask for progressive taxi to Taxiway Papa 1. (see on map) and park in either HB parking or HB camping ( Green Roof Pavilion) as shown on the Map.

I just watched the EAA webinar on the 2025 Notam for AV. I am a reasonably new pilot (350 hours) and want to fly over to AV this year. My friend and instructor and I are going to fly over the week before so he can reserve a campsite and give me practice.
As I watched the webinar I wondered why the ATC couldnt allow pilots to fly the Notam route for practice when there was limited traffic. When we fly over I will have to follow standard pattern and ATC instructions. Is there a reason they couldnt use the Notam route as a pattern the week before so we could practice? Just an idea.

It’s not a bad idea….but I expect the answer is that the regular controllers at Oshkosh Tower don’t know anything about the NOTAM - they clear it and head for the hills once the show Notice goes into affect. And the show Notice includes guys sitting on the ground out at Fisk - that isn;t in the normal ATC process at KOSH. So you wouldn’t;’t have that. The flow at KOSH on a normal day is pretty sleepy, and when you call up inbound to Tower, they direct you into the pattern (just like any towered airport). Teh Oshkosh arrival is just so different from what they do normally that they can’t really replicate it under normal conditions.
That’s all an educated guess based on years of flying into KOSH both during the show and at other times.

I think all the available arrival info, EAA & YouTube videos make navigating the landmarks pretty straight forward. What can be more challenging is the erratic nature of the flying demonstrated by other planes flying in the Conga line.
As OSH gets closer I make an effort to spend a few minutes practicing maintaining 90 kts & 1,000ft AGL around my local area. Admittedly, not the most thrilling of flights but helpful in preparation. If more pilots inbound to Fisk would take the time to practice flying in that configuration beforehand it might make the arrival go a bit smoother for the rest of us.
Of course, nothing will help the folks that don't bother to read the NOTAM and do dumb stuff like flying the hold patterns in reverse direction. Sigh, they will always be among us.

Thanks for the response. I know they use contract controllers the rest of the year but thought maybe they would be willing to read the Notam and offer it as a choice maybe a day or two the week before. It would only help people close enough to be able to fly in for the day but it would be nice to have a chance to fly it without all the traffic. I am seriously considering adding smoke to my plane to make sure people see me!
Rockwood, I was a first timer last year. It wasn’t as bad as some make it seem. Lots of good YouTube videos and google maps to get familiar, a co-pilot to watch for traffic and a calm attitude. After you get down you can go off about the idiots that obviously didn’t prepare.
Practice slow, SLOW speed control as you need to maintain spacing, I was full flaps about 75 knots for a while as guys in front flew off route then wanted back in line. The only other surprise was they called my base turn what felt really late. Practice! And don’t get distracted. It’s worth it!

From my experience over the last 13 years, prior to the Notam, (I arrive 2 weeks early), there are flight schools on the field, a fair amount of corporate jet and aviation in general based either on the field or those nearby. I can't see trying to offer Notam procedures during this period. BTW you might want to rethink smoke idea (obscuration, and thinking your plane is in distress comes to mind)
I'm not quite understanding the question. Most of the arrival route is well outside of Oshkosh's class D airspace (you don't enter it until just past Fisk) so you could certainly go out and fly almost the entire thing without talking to any controllers. If you wanted to follow it through all the way, you could simply report in "5 miles southwest, 1800 feet, landing with Alpha" and follow the tracks. It wouldn't hurt to tell them you are following the arrival procedure for practice. Request a close in right downwind for 27 if conditions permit, or whichever runway you'd like to practice on.
I'm local and I've done this a number of times over the decades to get warmed up for Oshkosh, and I know I'm not the only one. It's one of the advantages of living in Wisconsin (by my count there are only about 3...)
At least one of the contract controllers at KOSH (the other 51 weeks) is a retired FAA controller and veteran of many EAA conventions, including the infamous "How not to arrive at Oshkosh" recording. So yes they are aware of the procedure, even if they don't work traffic during convention week.

That is exactly the information I was looking for. I understood it was mostly out of the controlled airspace but it didnt sink in I could do most of what the Notam says and tell them 5 miles southwest and request the close right downwind if that works with the wind. Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Happy 10th Birthday, sure there are folks with 10 YO chilren...(spelled that way on purpose) who would love to party!
We’ll be celebrating at the RV-10 event at SOS on Sunday. We’ll plan on having some cake n’stuff.
I will have my 10 yo son at the RV-10 event. He likes cake. So does his dad.
