Gear leg fairings

Finishing up my wheel leg fairings and trying to figure out if I'm supposed to tap the holes for the number six screws or what? Lack of direction on 48-12. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

There is a mixture of AN507 screws and SMS screws. You fit K1000-06 platenuts for the AN507s and the SMS screws are "self-taping" straight into the lower fuse skin (yuk). Sorry, can't remember the pilot hole size of the SMS screws - I think I just experimented on scrap.

If you are creative with magnets, string and some patience you can get a nut plate in place for of all of them.
Well worth the fiddling. Self tappers have no place on an airplane imho.

I forgot to mention the vacuum cleaner as well. To suck the string into/out of hard to reach spots.

If I remember right, I installed riv-nuts for those screws, rather than self tapping.
