Lots of advice on installing the new one I found on VAF, loved reading back over Alex and Pete’s experiences…….currently needed to take a break from it as the frustration level was mounting. Also just glued the gasket to the pump and letting that dry.

We did some traveling so no work on the build. For my build shop: Now just need HVAC installed, electric stuff connected, floor painted, roll up door installed. Maybe 2 weeks left.

ordered my wings!

Lake Mattamuskeet NC and lunch today.

Got us some actual IMC conditions that were perfect for getting some currency. 1,200’ overcast with tops at 3,000 and light winds allowed me to get in a couple of instrument approaches in actual rather than simulated IMC. The avionics worked perfectly and the plane did great. Nice save to a gray overcast day.

Sat/Sun: Loads of fun riveting all the “easy” rivets on forward top skin and a little planning for how to tackle the “not-so-easy” ones.

Long time lurker of WDYDWYRTW. My favorite part of VAF. This motivated me many times to finish it.

Now that I have a flying RV-14A and it is freshly painted, I thought I would show it off. Saturday, my wife and I flew 3 hours from Houston to Lajitas (T89) to spend a night. Came back yesterday. Much better than the last time I visited those parts: 12 hours drive each way. For a flat lander Houston person, seeing jagged desert peaks was a bit different.

New pump installed, overnight leak check and next day post engine run show no leaks and steady 4.5 PSI.
Key points:
-glue gasket to fuel pump
-turn prop to ensure maximum pushrod clearance
-hold pump 3/8” or so away from accessory case and start bolts
-wiggle pump with bolts partially started until pump arm wiggles under the pushrod in the accessory case and pushes tight and square to the accessoey
Case with minimal hand pressure.
-tighten/torque bolts and leak check

I find it a little annoying they used 100LL blue colored torque seal for the fuel pump screws….

Windscreen fiberglassed. Not as relaxed as the cool and collected RV14 vans guru and video. My hangar was hot and the resin wanted to flash hot pretty quick. So I went outside my template perimeter a few times not intending to but at least onto the sacrificial tape. So....a lot of sanding is coming :) Seems like I used a lot of Epoxy resin. the 180 horses aught to pull it though.

I hope I have no surprises when i take off the tape. We'll see. Others feel the same way we you did your windscreen?
