EAA Chapter 822 (Wetumpka, Alabama) has 85 JROTC students visiting 08A for Young Eagles flights on Saturday, April 26th, at 08A. We're expecting a few USAF officers from the Air War College (with personal aircraft) and several pilots from the BHM area, plus pilots from our own chapter. Still, I'm concerned with having enough aircraft to fly them all.

So, how about it? You were going flying anyway, so how about joining us for the day? If you've never done a Young Eagle event with JROTC students, believe me, they are a delight as compared to the general population. And it would be a lot of fun if a bunch of RV's invaded our happy little airport.

For those not familiar, the pilot requirements are simple. Be up to date on all the usual currency items, carry $100,000 per seat liability, and complete both the online training and basic background check as a part of EAA’s Youth Protection Policy. It only takes a few minutes online: https://www.eaa.org/eaa/youth/youth-protection-policy-and-program. When flying a Young Eagle per the above, you're automatically covered up to $1 million.

Reply here or in private. Sure would appreciate the help. I know the kids will too.

Love to have you!

18/36 is our north-south grass runway. I don't think we'll get it re-opened in time, but no matter, as it's our spare. The main runway is 9/27, paved, 3000 ft with good approach paths. We'll launch east or west depending on wind, and fly our standard fast and slow loops to the north, RV's being on the outer fast loop. Pretty sure we've flown 2000+ around those loops in the last 20 years.

My daily driver is a 65 Alon A2 Aircoupe. It has 2 seats I can take up a130 lb passenger with full fuel, 180 lbs with the wing tanks half full.

I’m at 20ga. About 100 miles

So great that you and others are investing time and energy in supporting future leaders dedicated to serving our great country! I wish i were closer!

Don't sweat it Keith. Looks like we now have enough pilots for Saturday, and your local chapters will be delighted to have you at future events.

I’ve flown a number of YE flights over the years. Unfortunately, it seems very few JROTC students today are 130 lbs or less. Diets are not the greatest and physical activity seems impacted by cell phones. Plan on half tanks.

Enjoy the experience. JROTC students are motivated aviation enthusiasts.

My 90 hp continental burns 5.7 gallons per hour. By the time I fly the 100 miles to 08A I’d be able to fly 160 pounds
