RV12iS Brake line fittings

We are building and RV12 is with high school students. We are going trough the acceptance procedures now and found one brake line that is too short. It interferes with the other master cylinder with full deflection of the rudder pedals.. At this point replacing the brake line from the master cylinder to gear leg would be a huge issue. We are looking at adding a short piece of tubing to extend the current line and we need a union to accomplish this.

Any thoughts and or ideas?

If you search "Matco fitting" at Spruce they have a brass union that I think will work. I had a similar situation and was able to fix it by just rearranging the brake lines where they pass through the adel clamps on the firewall.

Yeah---Steve, DONT splice the plastic lines, Just change the line to a longer version. You are setting a bad example to the students by telling them to do that. Plastic hose is cheap, splice failure is NOT cheap. Just my opinion. Tom
 
I’d order more tube and remake the line. Set a good example for safety. Important parts should be well made - not made do.
 
I agree with others. On a tricycle gear airplane with a free casting nose wheel, brakes are critical for maintaining directional control when on the ground.

A good tip for routing a line within the same path as one you’re removing is to cut the end of the line to be removed so that it no longer has the compression Ferrell.
Then insert something in the line like a short metal rod and fit the new line over a protruding Portion of the rod. Then push the old line out with the new line following behind and through its existing path. Once fully in place trim the replacement line as desired and install the fitting hardware.
