Throttle RV10

Has anyone with standard RV10 Vans Panel and Control Bracket (throttle, prop and mixture bracket) replaced the original Vans throttle control cable with the McFarlane Vernier control Throttle ? Any feedback on the operation and the part # used would be appreciated.

Yes. Works very smoothly. This is the second airplane I've built with it. I recommend it. MCRV10-TV; I had my control custom made to get the exact dimensions I wanted due to my non-stock intake and throttle body, but if you're doing the OEM fuel injection, the stock control will work fine.

I flew an RV-14A with such a vernier throttle. Hated it.

Vernier controls are great for mixture and prop.

I want to clarify that I'm referring to the McFarlane Vernier-Assist Throttle Control. Carl, if you're referring to this control, I'd like to understand what the negatives were for you.

I personally think they're wonderful design, and they do operate differently than a stock vernier control.

I run the McFarlane controls. The mixture and prop are well worth it. The throttle is normally wide open at altitude so you seldomly make fine adjustments to the throttle. There is a 10 inch wide control bracket available that mounts on the bottom edge of the panel. This allowed me to have throttle, mixture, and prop plus the flap switch and alt air mounted in the same spot.

Me too. I don't hate it but I think they are not the best value. You need to push/pull while turning and it is not easy to set precise MP. Mine also seems to have a bit of friction.

Note the McFarlane throttle cable can do both push-pull and twist to adjust. It does not require you to push the button to push or pull.

I am not referring to pushing a button. I do not have a button.

If you twist the throttle without a slight pressure or pull, nothing happens, at least for me.

I've had great experiences from both installations I have done and the controls work well providing very minor MP changes from a slight turn adjustment of the knob, which is the vernier aspect of the control.

As was previously mentioned, I can simply push or pull to make large changes. The MCRV10-TV control has an elegant friction control system with a very wide adjustment range; if nothing is happening when you turn the knob, I would suspect the need for a slight increase in friction adjustment.

Apologies, we haven't flown our plane yet so the operation of the cable is not ingrained into my brain. See this article. Depending on the friction adjustment you can either just push/pull or use the twist to adjust the throttle.

Thanks everyone for the input/experience, taking everything into account I’ve decided that for throttle cable replacement I’ll go with the standard Vans replacement. Think as others have said it’d be worth considering McFarlane units for prop and mixture because of the elegant adjustment available, and would be nice to have😄
