io 360 horiztontal induction; I measure 53 inches with a pretty straight shot to the throttle body from the control knob. Should I add two or three inches just to be sure I will not be short or is that something worth considering? I know some have gone as much as 60 inches for length but that seems a bit too much. I used a piece of plastic coated wire for my cable substitute which is probably a little more flexible. The vans 51 inch is pretty short for my application. Thanks

I don't have an answer, but you may want to elaborate on what airframe ? , center console or side panel throttle?,..the more data, the more others can relate to their personal experience. I personally like using the 1/4" semi ridgid pex like plastic for freezer ice makers as a mock-up piece. Its very similar to the teleflex cables .
Yep, the airframe and other info would help. As mentioned above, TV cable or 1/4" plastic line makes a good tool for getting the proper length. On my RV8 I went with 60" on my IO360 with the front mounted horizontal throttle body. Could have actually been a couple inches longer for my routing. In hindsight I should have taken the time to go to the hangar and use some coax to take a proper measurement.
Would you have photos of how you routed the throttle cable on your RV-8? I'm trying to decide between up under the cylinders or down lower.
Not a -8, but on my-4, I routed through the firewall at the same height as the carb arms. I made a big swooping curve from the quadrant to the pass through. You don't want sharp curves if you can avoid.

The first pic shows where the cables pass through the firewall. Not a great photo but if you zoom you can see the throttle cable bracket bolted to the boss on the bottom of the sump in the second photo. I ran the engine control cables straight from the quadrant through the gear tower to the pass through on the firewall. From there the throttle cable snakes off to the right side below the sump to the bracket and connects to the throttle body linkage. I used the 60" length others had mentioned but could have used an extra Inch or two for a bit more slack.
